Nevada Among Worst States for Human Trafficking

LAS VEGAS - January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and the problem is particularly severe in Nevada. Statistics show the Silver State is one of the the 10 worst for human trafficking, with hundreds of calls to the national hotline each year.

Experts blame it on the state's multi-billion-dollar sex trade, which in some cases draws children into prostitution. Alexis Kennedy, an associate professor in UNLV's Department of Criminal Justice, says Nevada needs to help victims get counseling and transitional housing, then connect them with adult mentors even after they age out of the system.
