2014 Trafficking in America Taskforce Conference

I'm having a great time here at the TIATF 2014 Conference. The survivor/healer panel was exceptional. It is always fun to meet people in person you have been FB friends with for so long.  :) Heard from so many incredible speakers today. I even got to hear an inspiring story in Spanish from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. The incomparable Dr. Lederer presented a fascinating health study. Sandy S. from Ignition Fund presented media tips and how to navigate the pit falls of media for both survivors and allies.

It is cool to be stopped by attendees to hear how awesome they think truckers are...the work TAT is doing...how they are inspired to move forward on their own initiatives in part because of how impressed they are with how the trucking industry has taken up the mantle. I am proud to represent TAT and the members of the trucking industry who are so diligently fighting against human trafficking!

Journalist, Author and Advocate Tina Kelley sharing stories about homeless youth. A study at Covenant House in NY found that 700 of the 3000 kids had been trafficked or were forced into survival sex for basic needs.

Dr. Laura Lederer of Global Centurion presented her findings from a 2 year study on the effects of human trafficking on women's reproductive health. Health care professionals are many times the first line of defense for a trafficking victim. Need to learn the signs and know what to do.
