California Man Found Guilty Of Promoting Prostitution In Jackson County

MEDFORD, Ore. -- A California man was found guilty of 13 criminal crimes last week. The Rebecca Bender Initiative, an organization dedicated to helping find resources for sex trafficking survivors was in court when 40-year-old Virgil Rucker was convicted.

"Sitting there in the courtroom with the victim when the judge read all thirteen charges. One by one. To hear the jury say guilty, guilty, guilty. 13 times, we all just cried," said Initiative Founder Rebecca Bender.

Bender said the organization has worked to connect the survivor and her children with a program to get help. RBI also works with law enforcement agencies to train officers on what signs to look out for, how to investigate and prosecute similar cases. According to court documents, the victim was sex trafficked since 2014. She will be skyping in on Tuesday to hear Rucker's sentencing.
