New unit to fight human trafficking

The head of the state’s new Human Trafficking Unit said the memory of a frightened 14-year-old prostitute she helped rescue after a gunfight between two Hub pimps several years ago is what drives her to help more exploited women.

“The monotone in her voice and the deadness in her eyes was chilling,” state police Detective Lt. Pi Downsbrough said of the teen. “The depth of their victimization and the amount of control these (men) had over them was impossible to forget.”
